What is the PINE SEED study?

We aim to understand how early experiences influence brain and behavioral development by examining multiple key components of social-emotional function that happen across infancy: processing visual and auditory information, acquiring language, and forming attachments with caregivers.

What is involved?

4 in-lab study visits when your child is around 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 24 months of age and at home audio and photo snapshots in between visits Lab visits will last around 1.5-2.5 hours, including breaks. The visits include:

  1. Caregiver questionnaires about the child, caregiver, and home environment

  2. Child play activities

  3. Baby-friendly brain recordings

  4. Recorded child-caregiver play

Who can participate?

Children between 2 and 4 months old accompanied by a caregiver who is at least 18 years of age

What is included?

You and your child will receive:

  1. Financial compensation up to $310

  2. Travel reimbursement

  3. Photo of your child doing science

  4. Toy to take home

  5. Babysitting for siblings is also provided if needed
